Local groups
One of the biggest advantages of RCOT Specialist Section - People with Learning Disabilities membership is the opportunity to link with locality groups.
Locality groups may differ in their individual style and organisation, but their aims are uniform in that they:
- provide a local group for networking, sharing ideas, developing research projects, promoting CPD opportunities; and
- provide a point of contact with the National Executive Committee via the appointed link person.
Funding of up to £100 is now available once a year from RCOT Specialist Section - People with Learning Disabilities to start up and develop locality groups.
This funding has been made available to help members make better links with the locality groups and to support members to develop their networking and CPD.
Some examples of the kinds of small locality projects that would be considered for funding include:
- Setting up a new group
- Organising away days
- Paying for external speakers/ trainers
- Expenses to assist members to attend conference (particularly those who often have to travel long distances for national events)
- Audit and research (ethics approval and the requirements of RCOT briefing 88 “Responding to research inquiries: information for specialist sections” should be met before funds are awarded)
- Development of resources (drafts should be sent to NEC before funding is awarded)
- Publication of research
Projects should not be a means of generating income.
Contact your country lead at COTSSPLD@rcot.co.uk to find out about your local group.
Country lead - Vacant
All applications will be discussed and prioritised at RCOT Specialist Section - People with Learning Disabilities National Executive Committee meetings.
If successful, applicants will be asked to complete a write up for the newsletter detailing how the funding was used to benefit service users, promote the role of occupational therapy in learning disabilities and contribute to CPD.
