The Challenge
Helen* had recently been diagnosed with Dementia and was keen for support and an opportunity to speak about the impact of this, with others outwith her family.
The Change
She attended a peer to peer support group which had newly been introduced to Scotland, called Journeying through Dementia, which aimed to offer participants support to engage in meaningful activity and to maintain community connectedness.
The Impact
Helen* reported an improvement in her quality of life and said she felt more accepting of her diagnosis. She built relationships with others which she maintained after the group & went on to attend a local dementia friendly choir.
