The Challenge
How could we continue to support occupational therapy student placements and benefit from the time and knowledge they bring, with COVID-19 social distancing restrictions in place and high demand for the physical spaces in the placement setting?
The Change
Moving to a blended placement model, with students working 50% from home and 50% on site. Briefings, reflections and supervisions were completed virtually. On-site time focused on direct work, with universal projects completed whilst at home.
The Impact
We were able to support six students, whilst only requiring physical space for three on site. Whilst at home, students completed literature reviews to inform our service development plan and created an easy-read initial interview form.
