The Challenge
Patient X was admitted to the hospital following his hip infection. He was unable to walk using a zimmer frame, struggled to transfer and had poor sitting balance. Patient X was frustrated and he told us that he wanted to walk again.
The Change
Following occupational therapy assessment, we encouraged patient X to complete some bed-based exercises on trunk coordination and lower limb strength; practised bed/ chair/ commode transfers; and progressed to stand with a zimmer frame.
The Impact
Patient X improved his sitting balance and was able to sit on a chair for a longer period of time. He was also regaining his mobility and was able to walk a short distance with a zimmer frame to the toilet with minimal support required.
