The Challenge
UEA 2nd year BSc Occupational Therapy students had their placements suspended in April 2020 due to covid. Rescheduling the placement was not an option, so an innovative online placement experience needed to be created to enable students to progress.
The Change
The Peer Enhanced E-Placement (PEEP) was created, with the usual placement processes and learning outcomes at the heart of the design. Students worked individually and in peer groups managing a caseload, with the PEEP being delivered entirely online.
The Impact
Positive evaluation of the initial PEEP, led to further development of the PEEP into a customisable model, for multiple professions/contexts. The PEEP model has now been adopted UK wide and beyond, spanning over 15 health and social care professions.
