The Challenge
A child I was working with quadriplegic cerebral palsy during lockdown was unable to attend school and therefore was needing lots of help to access activities to fill her time.
The Change
I uploaded and edited grids on her Smartbox communication aid remotely so she could interact with her Alexa smart speaker, her mobile phone, television and a smart plug. We had remote zoom sessions to practice her eye gaze and switch access.
The Impact
This enabled her to listen to the radio, music, tell jokes, roll a dice and play trivia games. She could turn on and off a lamp and a fan. Turn on and switch channels on the television and send text messages and make telephone calls.
