Developing a learning resource is considered by the HCPC to be CPD activity, so record your project for your CPD portfolio.

Plan a course or learning event

The course planning workbook takes you step-by-step through the key considerations to achieve quality learning. The principles can be applied to any learning resource, making it useful for any learning you are planning to create.

Our workbook integrates the CPD Learning Standards for the RCOT Approved Learning award (see below).

CPD Short Courses

We support subject matter experts to develop CPD Short Courses. This format is designed to cover a topic in depth. The structure is usually individual preparation followed by people meeting together to expand on the initial learning. They are intended to be facilitated by volunteers with no special expertise.

The Short Course Planning Workbook will help to guide your thinking about what to include and how to design a short course. The templates for the workbook, presentation and facilitator guide provide a standardised format, but can be modified as needed. They integrate the CPD Learning Standards for the RCOT Approved Learning award (see below).

RCOT Approved Learning Award

Specialist Sections and Regions can apply for an RCOT Approved Learning Award for their learning events. Awarded courses are benchmarked to international CPD standards and demonstrate the highest quality for learning. The Award is the same as that offered by the College to commercial providers, but for Sections and Regions is exempt from fees.

We are currently unable to accept applications from commercial organisations for the Approved Learning Award. If you would like to register your interest for applying for the award in the future or for advice or further information, contact rcotapprovedlearning@rcot.co.uk.

To achieve the award, resources must meet nine standard domains:

  1. Content
  2. Accessibility and inclusion
  3. Participant engagement
  4. Assessment and reinforcement of learning
  5. Relevance
  6. Learning outcomes
  7. Course support and management
  8. Course follow up
  9. Quality monitoring and improvement

As part of the application process, provide the CVs of staff who deliver the course using the template provided.

RCOT Approved Learning for short courses

The RCOT Approved Learning Award is available for Short Courses in a different format. Not all standards for full courses apply. Our policy is to make RCOT Approved CPD Short Courses available to all members.

If you are developing a Short Course as a member of a Specialist Section, you can promote it as a taster product for your Section.
