Abstracts and session proposals
You can choose to submit either an abstract for scientific sessions in the categories of Research, Critical Discourse or Practice Development, or a Session Proposal. Session Proposals create more informal, creative and interactive opportunities to engage, collaborate and encourage learning.
Summaries of the different submission types are detailed in the tables below. Full details about each type and presentation formats – including our exciting new Bitesized learnings and PechaKuchas - can be found in the content submission guidance.
You have until 11.59pm on Sunday 21 January 2024 to submit your content.
Why you should submit your content to present
If you’ve got new ideas and want to influence your peers, if you’re proud of something and want to share it with the profession – submit content to present at our 2024 Annual Conference.
- You can make sure #RCOT2024 covers what’s important to OTs today.
- You’ll be widely recognised for your excellent and progressive work.
- You're proud of a recent project and would like to share your experience.
- Students and innovators – you can share new ideas and influence your peers.
- You’ll get published in our Book of abstracts and session proposals – shared with all attendees and available as a BJOT supplement.
- Presenting at our Annual Conference is a CPD activity.
We’ll be in touch in February 2024 to let you know the outcome of your submission. If it’s successful, we’ll support you with preparing and presenting your session, including an online masterclass.

We'll continue to run Annual Conference as an online event and will have regular reviews to make sure it’s best practice and best meets the needs of our members.

When can I submit an Abstract/content? When is the “Call for Papers”?
Submissions for Annual Conference 2024 content are now open.
When will I hear if my submission is successful?
We will mark and compile content in February 2024 and let people know if they were presenting in mid-March 2024.
How are content submissions marked?
All submissions received are marked against set criteria, which you can find in the content submissions guidelines.
When received, submissions are anonymised and each one is marked separately and independently by two reviewers. The average score is calculated to give the final score. In the unlikely event that there is a large discrepancy between a set of marks, the submission will be referred for marking by a third reviewer.
Who is reviewing the submissions?
We've got new reviewers alongside a well-established group of reviewers. The majority are British Journal of Occupational Therapy (BJOT) reviewers, from all areas of OT academia and practice. Any third marking is done by a member of RCOT Council. We will add a list of all our reviewers in the new year.
When can I book to attend?
Ticket sales will open in the new year.
