Meet your committee members
The Wales Region Committee is part of your local OT community here to help our members find support, networking, development, learning and funding opportunities. The committee is made up of volunteers from across Wales from a range of diverse backgrounds, lived experiences, interests and localities. Our committee has seven core roles including Chair, Vice Chair, Treasurer, Secretary, Regional Communications Lead, Social Media Lead and Member Activity Lead. Additionally, there are also co-opted members who represent views from different membership groups such as new graduates, areas of the profession like higher education institutions, or local groups.
To help you understand how we can support our members we wanted to introduce ourselves over the coming newsletters.
Katie Williams – Joint Activity Lead
Hello. I’m Katie Williams and I am a 3rd Year student at Wrexham University. I am married with three teenage children, and have a Springer Spaniel called Major. Prior to study I was an Activities Coordinator in a care home for people living with dementia. Meaningful activity was extremely important to my residents and essential for me to deliver, so I hope I can use some transferable skills from this role in my new shared role as Activity Lead. I joined the committee to increase my knowledge of RCOT as an organisation and how it could help me as a student soon to qualify, as well as other occupational therapists. I’m excited to get on board and support occupational therapists in the region with activities and events throughout the year. I look forward to meeting you all soon.
Saru Macheva – Social Media Lead
Hi everyone! My name is Saru, and I am the Social Media Lead for the RCOT Wales Region Committee. I graduated from Cardiff University in July 2023 after completing my degree in Occupational Therapy. I started working in Social Services in September 2023 so I am still finding my feet, but really enjoying my new role! My role focuses on helping people maintain their independence within their own homes, and preventing hospital admissions. I started volunteering with the committee in June 2023 as Social Media Lead. My role involves networking on behalf of the committee, highlighting the work of the region, and promoting Occupational Therapy as a profession.
