The last issue of OTnews for 2023 has some exciting news from RCOT.
We've introduced a special four-page feature discussing the importance of our EDB Strategy in realising RCOT's vision by 2027, emphasising equity and social justice. This feature showcases insights from members involved in its development and how it's motivating action.
Maintaining our focus on equity, diversity and belonging, we also delve into the University of Southampton's strides in allyship within their occupational therapy programme.
And on the topic of primary care, we hear from Melissa Chieza, an occupational therapist by background, who is working as a primary care mental health liaison practitioner in four GP practices across Hertfordshire. She talks about the increase in the number of university students seeking support from GP services regarding their mental health and how her role is supporting them.
This is followed by two further features that focus on the role of occupational therapy in university student support services. Clare Copley explains how the implementation of a non-conventional student support offer at Leeds Conservatoire has helped bridge the gap between student mental health, counselling services and disability support, to provide a more inclusive and accessible service. While Josie Holding talks about her own placement experience there.
This is just a sneak peek of what’s inside. We hope you enjoy this month's issue, and feel free to share feedback or your service developments with Tracey Samuels, our Editorial and Design Manager, at editorial@rcot.co.uk. You can also read our issues online or in print.
