RCOT are delighted to announce that the Memorandum of Understanding: Improving health and care through the home has been refreshed and published.
Signed by over 25 government bodies and organisations including RCOT, this renewed MoU sets out a series of commitments to promote health and wellbeing through the provision of healthy homes.
The MoU recognises that the right home environment is the cornerstone of a healthy life. It brings together decision-makers and influencers from across the public and voluntary sectors and sets out:
- our shared commitment to joint action across government, health, social care and housing sectors in England
- principles for joint working for better health and wellbeing outcomes, and to reduce health inequalities
- a framework for national and local cross-sector partnerships to provide healthy homes, communities and neighbourhoods
- conditions for developing integrated and effective services to meet the needs of individuals, carers and families with a range of local stakeholders
- what shared success might look like.
Commenting on the MoU, Julia Skelton, Director of Professional Operations at RCOT says:
“The Royal College of Occupational Therapists is delighted to be a signatory on this important document alongside some of the most prominent health and social care organisations in this country. Access to quality, healthy housing remains a deep societal challenge to the health and wellbeing of our communities. Therefore it is vital that government, health and social care and housing sectors work hard to address the inequalities brought about by poor access to housing.”
