Health Education England (HEE) has released a new elearning programme, AHPs in Neonatal Care, which RCOT helped to produce.
If you’re new to working in neonatal care or thinking about being an occupational therapist in this area, this elearning is for you.
You’ll find two sessions about the role, scope and practice of occupational therapy and a workbook to support you to expand and apply your learning. The introduction module will show you how allied health professionals (AHPs) work together within neonatal care.
Our Professional Adviser Dr Sally Payne and members of our Specialist Section – Children, Young People and Families produced the evidence-based occupational therapy content with HEE. We worked with a family who received neonatal care to make sure the content reflected their views and priorities for occupational therapy in neonatal care.
Neonatal care is a growing area of occupational therapy practice with a specific skillset.
- OTs help babies by providing individualised care and promoting the best sensory environment for brain development.
- They also support their families in their caring roles within the hospital setting and when they bring their baby home.
If you have an NHS email or OpenAthens account, you can access the elearning programme for free via the HEE website. This elearning is available for OTs across the UK.
Thank you to those who helped us produce the occupational therapy content:
- Amanda Clifford, Alice Gair, Emily Hills, Deanna Gibbs and Amanda Lawes from RCOT SS – Children, Young People and Families
- Candice and Micah Hampson and their baby Holly
