Start using our Library today!
Last year, we announced that the physical reference Library was to close and we’d provide an entirely digital Library service.
By doing this it means you can:
- use the Library wherever and whenever you need
- browse online journals and read full-text articles
- search the CINAHL and Medline databases
- read e-books and online PhD theses via the catalogue
- access information skills guides to help with literature searching, using databases, navigating the Library catalogue and keeping up to date
- ask for support from our enquiry service.
What’s new?
- 77 new e-books, 78 online theses, 35 RCOT publications and 28 open access documents.
- An upgraded catalogue – you can even segment search results by format.
- A broader range of e-books.
- You can see how we aquire, maintain and develop the Library in our Collection Management Policy.
You've increased your use of e-books by 28% and the CINAHL and Medline databases by 33%.
What happened to the physical resources?
Over the past year we rehomed many books, journals and other printed materials. We returned printed dissertations and theses to 37 authors. Better World Books, a for-profit social enterprise, took 90 boxes of books. And print resources were sent to the following 17 institutions:
- British Library
- Brunel University
- Cambridge University
- Canterbury Christ Church University
- Chartered Society of Physiotherapy
- Coventry University
- Edinburgh Napier University
- London South Bank University
- National Library of Wales
- Queen Margaret University
- UK Research Reserve
- University of Brighton
- University of Central Lancashire
- University of Derby
- University of Hertfordshire
- University of Liverpool
- Wellcome Library
Our two librarians continue to work with other professionals across the library, archive and museum sector to ensure that as much material as possible is placed in publicly accessible collections – homes are now being sought for the older printed resources and items that require special care.
A reserve collection of RCOT (and COT) materials is being kept, which we hope to digitise in the future. Records for these are on the Library catalogue.
If you need help using the digital resources, contact our Library team between 9am–5pm, Monday–Friday at library@rcot.co.uk.
