Medico-Legal Forum
The Specialist Section – Independent Practice hosts the Medico-Legal Forum (MLF); the purpose of which is to support independent occupational therapists undertaking medico-legal work (expert witnesses and case managers) and to promote best practice and the profession. The forum meets bi-monthly
Aims
- To facilitate mutual development and the exchange of views.
- To provide a forum for professional advice.
- To facilitate the sharing/development of up-to-date knowledge/skills.
- To raise and maintain standards of practice.
- To organise a MLF conference and relevant events/webinars.
The MLF is comprised of experienced occupational therapists who have volunteered to undertake to support members of our profession doing specialist legal work. The group seeks to maintain a balanced representation about location of experts, types of work undertaken, and legal organisations involved.
Currently the MLF is seeking more members to support its activities as over the last 18 months it has had a quiet period. If you are interested in joining the forum please contact Carol Kendall MLF@rcotss-ip.org.uk.
Medico-Legal Forum Conference
The organisation of an annual conference is one of the agreed aims of the MLF. This is managed by a conference subcommittee and contracted events management agency. Due to the impact of COVID-19, plans were put on hold but we hope to go live again! Proposed titles/themes include:
• A different perspective
• Are you really impartial?
• Getting the balance right
• Clinical negligence - a balanced approach
If you are interested in getting involved, the conference committee would welcome your comments/suggestions and support. Please email Carol Kendall MLF@rcotss-ip.org.uk.
